The architecture of our society is currently failing. While the state
pours billions into a "War on Drugs"—a policy with no statistically
significant impact on reducing drug use or overdose deaths—it
simultaneously allows this nation to become the global hub for the most
severe forms of child exploitation. (The Pew Charitable Trusts)
(R.I.S.E. Magazine)
The United States, alongside a few other nations, is a primary hosting
hotspot for child sexual abuse material (CSAM). (Cardozo Law Review)
We spend billions annually on drug control—the Bureau of
Prisons’ FY 2025 budget for drug control alone is $4.1 billion.
Meanwhile, we lock up low-level, non-violent offenders for decades
under mandatory minimums, a practice that has yielded high costs
and low public safety returns for over three decades.
(Biden White House)
While drug sentencing laws are notoriously severe, rigid, and
disproportionate, the legislative framework fails to protect the
most vulnerable. Our current system prioritizes the "othering"
and dehumanization of drug offenders while struggling to
effectively disrupt the commercialization of CSAM, where URLs
are branded, monetized, and sold for payment.
Over the past fifteen years, the number of reports of suspected
child sexual abuse materials (CSAM) made to the CyberTipline has
increased by 15,000% (CyberTipline 2021 Report, National Center
for Missing and Exploited Children). The US hosts more child sexual
abuse content online than any other country.
